Re: the world according to me....
Ulwe wakens with a start. Barely understanding Sangraal, Ulwe confusedly asks: "Oath? What oath?" As the grogginess leaves him, he blinks and then shakes his head, wincing with pain as he does so.
"Ach Humakt's Oath! Aye Dawn Brother I though I had gone away over the seas as well."
After Sangraal's second prayer, Ulwe stands up. He looks over and sees the bald mage laid out also at Death's door.
"Madragar!" He exclaims and moves quickly to the mage's side.
Seeing the bandages set on Madragar's wounds, Ulwe inspects them to see if they need improvement or if he can help in any way.
[Heal +8, healer's kit +2 = +10 total ]
Ulwe looks to see how grave the wounds are.
Once Madragar is seen to, Ulwe prays to Orlanth sitting on his prayer mat in meditation communing with his Patron.

Re: the world according to me....
Madragar's wounds are severe. His abdomen was ripped open and a wide swath of flesh from his left hip to his right ear was shredded. He's lucky to be alive and will take some time to recover, if left to heal naturally.

Draxim thinks for a while, progressing from red-faced to penitent following Janes passive-aggressive comment. Finally he stands and gravely approaches the bellicose bartender.
"Janes, I wouldn't want to see worldly stuff come between us an' our fight against Chaos. Here."
He reaches up to his neck and removes Sylreik's Chain and hands it to Janes.
"I imagine you could use this as well as me. But if you ever decide to abadon the fight against Chaos, pass it on to someone who will continue it."
So saying, he returns to his pack and starts sorting out breakfast.

Janes looks shocked, then abashed and then thankful as he accepts the chain from Draxim. He stares at it in fascination for a few seconds then asks, "What does this do?"

"That is a great gift. Again Draxim your generocity is a well whose patrons never thrist." Sangraal says. "The necklace forms a protective shield around any who dawns it. The shield activates when you are at you most vulnerable."

Re: the world according to me....
Sangraal takes the moment to put to words what he thinks everyone has already figured out.
"Every couple days someone comes down here. We probably don't want to be here when they show up or at least plan a trap. We also might want to check out the secret door now that everyone but Madragar is up."
Sangraal recites a strong chant over the mauled form of Madragar. He figures is won't help much but anything is better then nothing.
[OOC: Sangraal will take the time to figure out exactly how many days we have till the expected arrival of the visiters.

Re: the world according to me....
Wandering over to the Captain, Atan reaches up and yanks his arrow from the skull of the long dead corpse. "Now I have nine.", and puts the arrow back in his quiver after a short inspection.
Atan splits his time guarding the entrance, even when others are already at the watch, and checking on Ulwe and Madragar. Once Ulwe regains consciousness he finds a quiet momment to remove all his equipment and inspect it for damage caused by the fighting, paying close attention to straps or buckles that could be easily repaired.
Curiously he watches Sangraal read the scrolls and at the mention of the mysterious supplier Danzan and his scheduled return, Atan reminds everyone that they have a schedule as well with the hired boat captain. "....not to mention we are being hunted. I do not know if they have the ability to track us through the seas, but we should plan for the worst. If these corpses still radiate life of the undead, they should be burned and destroyed completly."
[Atan collects his money, praising the skill of dwarves in finding and opening things.]

Re: the world according to me....
After his supplications to the Sea-King are complete, Ulwe calls upon his lord for boons and favors:
[ooc: Cure Moderate Wounds: Atan D8+3, Cure Light Wounds Ulwe d8+3 ]
If Atan is still wounded, Ulwe will cure him again: [cure light wounds D8+3 ]
After healing the captain, Ulwe takes back Aella and leaves Joalla in Atan's hands.
"Captain, please carry a maiden for now while your quiver is so bare. You would honor me and my Lord."
Then he addresses the problem of the ship.
"The Kelp Canary will not tarry long. We paid for passage through tomorrow if our strange experience as Dragon Newts had no effect on the time. We're in no condition to make our deadline with Madragar so grave. There is the rest of our quest which we must complete here as well. The Armory must be reached."
Ulwe contemplates for a moment and continues "We'll get off this island one way or another. Let us worry about that when the time arises."
He pockets the coins and thanks the clever Dwarves as well.

Re: the world according to me....
Khelzhad agrees with Ulwe:
"...even if the disk has been taken, the boons of the Dragonewt armory could be of great aid in the battles ahead. Clearly their spirit is with us, and we cannot discard what little aid is aforded us in these dark days."
Unless anyone objects, the three dwarves investigate the scroll shelf and wall for the opening mechanism, also trying to determine if it has been recently used.
"Be careful with that runed ring", he cautions. "I have little trust for these Lunars, who willingly expose themselves to the energies of the undead. Speaking of - I would greatly like to see those foul lanterns extinguished forever, and there is the matter of Druuga, now shown his chaos form that we have long suspected, curse his name."
Khelzhad would like to take a look at the ring and make a Bardic Knowledge test + 4 to try and determine the race of the manufacturer, and possibly the age.

Re: the world according to me....
[Madragar is still unconscious but many of his wounds have closed. Ulwe is lightly wounded. Atan, after both of Ulwe's spells, is fully healed.]
Khelzhad is sure the ring was crafted by a Lunar mage-priest. He doesn't recall a particular story, but Khelzhad remembers many instances of Lunar heroes wearing rings like this one. They are often gifts from the Lord Marshal to an individual that has distinguished himself - a kind of award for valor. The rings always grant some boon to the wearer, and often seem protective in nature. When this specific ring was made Khelzhad cannot say.
After carefully moving the stack of scrolls, the dwarves take a close look at the wall on which the Ghuraskalli bard perceived some hidden stonework. All three agree there is something hidden but for several minutes they can't find any opening mechanism. Finally, however, Khelzhad notices an inscription on the wall about five feet from the floor. Mixed in with all the other strange dragonewt glyphs and icons he spots a simple claw shape quite similar to the drawing Madragar found in his spellbook.

At the meer mention of the name, Druuga, Pogar spits. "I tell'd ya that we shoulda been endin 'is life." Shruging his shoulders, Pogar also adds, "Might'n been him we heard screamin' might'n be a dead Druuga now"
Upon seeing the locking mechanisim, Pogar scratches his filthy beard, the same way he always does, when things are going on to which he knows nothing about.

"We Ghuraskalli are not a race who put much into script, but we do use quite a bit of numbers and diagrams to craft our world under the earth. I believe key is..."
Khelzhad pauses at mid sentence and looks at the corpse pile of the Lunar scribe.
"Are we sure he is completely dead?"

Re: the world according to me....
Ulwe suggests that the Dwarves try to open the door by pressing the claw shape.
"Wait until we are all ready, except of course the slumbering fisherman's son."
Once the party is armed and ready, and the door has been inspected for traps and given a good listening Ulwe nods to Draxim.

Ulwe appraches the claw and examines it for himself.
[Does the claw on the door have numbers as well as Madragar's diagram? Are they the same and in the same order? ]
If the claw is plain, he will push the shape in the door. If it has numbers he will not. In either case Ulwe will wait until the party is ready. [Door checked for Traps and listened to ]

2+9 =
Sangraal speaks up before Ulwe pushes the claw.
"I have thought about this claw and it numerical key. The only pattern that jumps out at my eyes is that the right most "talon" contains the sum of 11. A more obsure answer is if the key is one,one then the center talon could be the answer 4+1=5, 7+1=8."
Sangraal takes a breath.
"So in short a recommend pushing the right most talon only. If you wish I'll push it.
[OOC: I have looked over that drawing and came to three conclusions.
1. I am not a math major
2. If the key is 11 then the right most talon is the answer.
3. If the key is one, one. Then the center talon could be the answer
If their is another pattern someone let me know ]

Re: 10+1, 7+4, 2+9 =
"I agree with Sangraal that 11 is the key, however a combination adding up to 11 can be made from each talon. Look closely at the design" (its's over Khelzhad's head) "and see if the numbers can be individially pressed. If so I would say press the digits on each that add up to 11."

Re: 10+1, 7+4, 2+9 =
Sangraal turns and bows his head to Khelzhad.
"Brilliant. Yes, I see now. I was stopping at the most obvious answer without extrapolating."
Sangraal steps up and presses the digits on each "talon" that make up the sum of 11.
[OOC: Sangraal presses the talon digits that add up to 11 on each talon
