Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
Might not be due to GoD, but after it was released, the guild im in(now elemental) went from averaging 60-80 on every raid(well, that were on normal times) to tonight, having a high of 43 log on. And Saturday is one of our biggest raiding nights. Raid attendance is down, but I think it's a mixture of moving on, DX9(We blame ANY and EVERYTHING on DX9, just for comic relief.), and GoD. Quite afew people were fed up with such crappy expansions lately, and just stopped logging on. It's really a fun thing =/

And after Brenlo's latest stirling comminque (Roughly translated: "Knights aren't supposed to tank current content. Go FD in the corner and wait for drops"), expect a few more cancellations and/or people rerolling.
I'm glad I started a beastlord a couple of months ago.
I'll just sit here in my "second-rate, not quite in Time yet" guild and let all the bleeding edge people suffer for me.
And people wonder why I don't run out and join the top guild on the server....

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
WHo likes to sit out of a raid ? Having a guild that used to have numbers around 100 now is down to 60's or more. GoD has left a very sour taste in alot of peoples mouth or added to it from previous SOE stupidity, but we all grow immune to it
Having a raid limit of 54 through the ikkanz trials is just silly. It does hurt a guild having to be split apart liek this. Imagine being a guild leader having to make the decision who stays and who sits on tonights raid becuase they have over 54 members logged on .. cheers for SOE not
Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
On the good side...
Atleast they betatested the vogue thinking on game design before releasing EQ2. I bet GoD and Starwars has really shook them up internally on what a state of the art game should look like.
Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
*warning, only mildly related rant incoming*
I love having a 3.2GHz machine, 2GB of ram, raid array drives, Nv5950 overclock w/256MB purchased solely with eq'esque games in mind, only to have it crash to desktop every 5 minutes since DX9 was implemented. Don't forget 20 minutes of 1018's before I can get back in. If I'm lucky the guild hasn't won & awarded loot by the time I get on. I got to play EQ wonderfully on the new box for ... a whole week before Sony jacked it up. My 1.7GHz with 1/3 the balls ran eq better before DX9 than the new box does now.
Given the above, I can't even finish a time raid let alone GoD.
Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
Post Warning: It's been a few years but I feel a full-on Opus forming. These things normally bubble for a month or two but I figure I'll be throwing out a full 3000+ word rant in a little while. Hell, it's been at least two years since the last one =)
GoD was a @#%$-up. It had everything *almost* right but suffered from myopia. Same thing with the Hot Spot thing, they missed out on the WHY of LoY sucking and tried to gloss it over. I will tell you right now that you can double again the exp bonus in LoY and still it will be soloers and PLers. If you really want to know why, email or talk to the playerbase that gets it.
GoD sucked but they were stymied by WHY it sucked! Was it the running invis + danger? Was it the class needs that made Kunark look like fun?? Was it the lore!!? No, not the lore!
No, GoD sucks &%( because it does. Not as the encounters are too hard, too buggy or too rigorous... because no one gives a damn if they are beaten. Progression through Kunark, Vellious, Luclin, PoP and such was hard at times but it was there. The community literally cheered when the AoW died (even if the devs were pissed). We loved participating or hearing about clearing NToV, Emp, RZ, Quarm and so on.
Killing Baxrtz or whatever his name is has no value. It could drop 100/19 weapons and Psychotically Old Spells and it still means nothing to 99% of us. We are still slogging in PoP content and the elder guilds (whom I respect a great deal) don't seem to much care anymore as it is.
Time+ guilds can already farm exp/LDoN pretty much at will, which is all fine. Moving from Time to GoD gear is of no real meaning though. 200-230 dps as a Rogue means nothing at all. 10.15k HP at 2100AC to 10.35HP at 2200AC might matter for certain GoD encounters (flog me for ignoring the mods) but it sure as hell doesn't matter for exping.
In the past, the deal was Raid, exp and make yourself better so you can do other things easier. You could then exp with ease (hi PoE, PoF or just being well geared) and also perhaps get some gear easy enough. Well hell, plat farming is cornered by BoT crews and the rest of us frankly don't care outside of twinks anyhow. But exp farming? Sure, in general we don't mind maxing AAs or at least finishing off a few twinks. Ah, but twinks need full reflags (ugh) and well, twinking gets boring.
Bah, enough... big post comes but it ain't here yet...

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
What makes you think high end guild do not care about Uqua being beaten ? There are about 50 guilds working on GoD.
Do you really think people are raiding Plane of Time to exp faster or farm LDoN with more ease ? come on ...
The deal has always been you gear in order to do more difficult things, you don't do difficult things in order to do easier things even more easily.
If you think the most important thing in EQ is single group content, then why do you complain about GoD, there is a lot of single group content, much more than in PoP or luclin, it's just that 'casual' players are afraid to leave the safety of LDoN. That was probably the big mistake of SoE, not making a LDoN adv camp in Natimbi that would have pushed people in GoD a bit.
That said RvR in single group content in GoD is very good, Sewer, Vxed, Tipt, Ikkinz, Ferubi, Kod Taz, Yxtta all those zone drop items that are in line with the difficulty.
The main problem is that the begining of GoD is too hard. Usualy the 'easy' content of an expansion would be easy ... and would not require much in terms of gear.
In GoD, sewers trial are slightly harder than Hard LDoN.
Beating Ikkinz single group trials require Time gear.
Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
thank you shamroc for reminding me why i quit~
i barely touched GoD before i left, but something about the expansion honestly just didnt feel right. maybe i just had a bitter taste in my mouth after PoP causing guilds to build up to massive numbers (and we all know how well that went with potime).
with gates release i was seriously NOT looking forward to another PoP. as someone said earlier, what i really wanted was "a new velious".
flags, insanly hard mobs, lots of bugs = not my idea of a good time.
hell, i dont know if i will even return to MMORPG's. i must admit, the only thing that really brought me back to EQ after the first time i left, was the people. which seems to be the reason alot of people are still 'hanging in there'.

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
I retired shortly before GoD was released, because, being in the GoD beta test, I got a good feeling what the expansion would be like when it went live. My forsight didn't let me down.

Mile deep (metaphor!) and an inch wide unless your dripping in very high end raid gear. That made GoD the playground of the rich and famous. Couple zones of sub-par xp, some neato trials, and a few instances does not an expansion make for the majority of your playerbase. When I dunno, 50%? 60%? 70+%? of your playerbase wouldnt notice or care if an expansion suddenly ceased to exist, that doesnt bode well.
Then take away the guild continuity of progressing AS A GUILD by forcing the guild to get chopped up into bits and pieces to progress in single groups or multiple groups requiring the same class core + a few extras thrown in over and over and over, that doesnt bode well.
There is other stuff, but anytime you make progressing more about tedium then about anything else, your gonna lose lots of people along the way.

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
basically GoD is the same bitching and moaning as PoP but this time its cause of the LIMIT of players not the LOWEST AMOUNT AND STILL WIN, granted the limit of ppl in a raid was a retarded idea but this is just the same can of bitching with a new lable
i dont know about most of you but im still enjoying myself and my guild is still stuck on the friggin traps in uqua let alone the named, youll get over it or youll retire, but if you retire plz dont come back and piss in my cornflakes by saying "this game/expansion/feature sucks and is why me and others retired" despite all the screwed up stuff many of us are enjoying ourselves, bugs and all

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
<--- Won't step foot in GoD unless specifially ask to by close friends.
I have no fun there. Mobs tear through all but the best warriors/cleric/slower holy trinity and coupled with see SoS mobs that aggro from the next zone?
No thanks. I'll stay in Elementals for my exp.
I would not even begin to research yet another flag progression tree now that I already have 2 toons Elemental flagged. Soloable key quests I can handle for specific zones, but flag trees? And zone names that sound like something out of Lion King? (Ok now your where? Rinimwi? Is that next to Qwinimi or past Zimbabua?)
Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
I don't know if GoD was solely to blame, or if it was a matter of general burnout, being fed up with the bugs, or the disappointment that was GoD, but my elemental guild pretty much disintigrated last week. Most of the players just up and quit, a handful moved to other guilds, and a few others like myself are questioning where to go from here. I used to play over 40 hours a week. Now I can't even bring myself to log in.
I transferred to my server specifically to play with that guild and 2 close friends. With the guild out of the picture, and hardly any interest left in actual progression, I don't know what will happen. It seems many guilds on MM at elemental level or above aren't as "healthy" as they once were.
As for my sudden lack of interest in progression: I don't think I've changed much - I think it's that nothing above where I am now offers anything new or particularly interesting. It's just more of the same. More mobs to kill, more loot to loot, and more flags to repeat over and over. I suspect I'm not the only elemental (or higher) player who feels this way. Getting elemental access was, for me, the last big milestone in EQ.
New expansions (especially Kunark and Velious) were such highly anticipated events and they didn't leave me disappointed at all. But GoD and its lengthy trials, ridiculously priced AAs (even to someone who expes regularly in Fire), and horrid spell drop rate are nothing but frustrating. I am, for the first time in five years, considering calling it quits. There's just nothing left to look forward to.
I suppose I have finally beaten EQ. I might try to revive my interest by leveling up a new character on a pvp server or FV, but I suspect my days are numbered. Sigh.

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
I wouldn't understand that raiders quit if they aren't past Quarm: PoP provides quite a long lasting chain of content.
On the other hand, there's nothing more effective to loose customers that bugs introduced with dx9 that prevent to play at all. And that is worth getting someone fired at SoE imho.

You're dead wrong. This is nothing like PoP. God just blows - even if Uqua is fixed. If you operate under the assumption that Uqua is kinda like RZtW was in PoP and Qvic+ will be elementals, let's compare raid content:
GoD has:
1. Rondo
2. Primals (reluctant to include these because they're gimp. Essentially Elemental guild raid mobs at best)
3. Ikkinz - 3 single group events that are all the same except the boss mobs
4. Ikkinz - 4 raid events that are essentially the same except each boss has a unique gimmick (and trial 4 just re-uses the previous 3 gimmicks, lol).
5. Summoners Ring
6. Uqua - broken
7. Tipt + Vxed. Single group LDONs that take a couple hours instead of 40 minutes (60-90 minutes for a PL team)
That's it man. That's the entire "high end progression" of GoD.
Kodtaz, Ikkinz, Tipt, Vxed, Uqua, Ferubi, Yvxxt. 7 zones with about 7 different mob models and styles.
Even though PoP had problems, at this point in time it had:
1. Aerin'Dar
2. Mithaniel Marr
3. Rydaa'Dar / 2 other HoH trials
4. Saryrn
5. Bert
6. CoD Ring
7. Terris
8. Vallon Zek
9. Tallon Zek
10. Hedge Maze
11. PoJ trial
12. BoT Named
13. Agnarr
14. RZtW - broken
There is just no comparison. While having some of the stuff broken stunk, there were tons of things to do and work on. Only a few guilds got to RZ before he was tuned. And, all of these mobs had fairly unique and interesting zones. In GoD everything is "rocky valley with golems, snakeleaders, dogs, and brutes".

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
@Orme: Uqua isn't broken anymore, it's been fixed for some days now (about damn time...). No one has beaten the final boss yet, but there are several guilds that have been VERY close (getting him as far as 6%) (Edit: He's been killed now). However, Uqua hasn't been the only cockblock in GoD. Ikkinz, Chambers of Transcendense (sp?) for example was bugged for a long time, longer on some servers than others which is even more @#%$ up.. And that same thing happened in Uqua as well where we on Antonius Bayle got some bugfixes later than other servers..(I'm sure we weren't the only server that got it later, but I know that several servers got the fixes before us).

Re: what did GoD to your guild ?
Something else that is missing (for the most part) is the sense of urgency to raiding. Most content is instanced, which while that has it's positives, takes away from the rush-to-kill-before-rival-guild excitement. I don't miss training, ks'ing, etc, but that did add some fun too at the same time.
