Re: What defines a "good" Rogue?
Ah yes, what a question this is.

A good rogue adjusts to the situation as needed. A good rogue pours on the dps when its called for, yet knows how to walk the agro line to the tee. A good rogue knew his zones inside and out. Knew every square inch of the dungeons he was in,and scouted each of them beforehand.

A good rogue can cr a corpse from damn near anywhere without getting wacked, and IF he was seen, have the needed means of getting out without dying to try again, (how many insta gate potions ya got?).

A good rogue is prepared ahead of time and can assume more than just the role of dps from the backside. He has achieved that 6th sense you only get from experience. Ever had to slow or snare a mob because the chanter or snarer just died on the inc.?

A good rogue anticipates moves ahead of time and adjusts his game accordingly. He knows when to bail out and escape so he can cr and save a raid countless hours, (how many of us have saved the night in VT >.<).

A good rogue knows when to crack a joke and lighten up the mood when things look bad. Giving some comic relief when needed seems to be our forte. Besides, who else would point and laugh at the rangers when they die? Thanks Wix for teaching me that =P

A good rogue knows his poisons inside and out. He knows how to utilize them to the utmost effectiveness. How many of us have trudged to that "pond" to get the barbs? I used to have all rogue nights where a bunch of us would go fishin' there and @#%$ the night away while we were stocking up.

A good rogue is an opportunist. They take advantage of situations and turn it into their favor. A good rogue can always find a way to make a profit and if any rogue says he is a broke rogue, he isnt a good rogue or he is lying. In which case he is even a better rogue >.< At least you real roleplayin' ones )

What makes a good rogue is not the gear but the choices he makes while playing. With that being said, a special shout out to the best rogue I ever knew, hey Wix..moo.

Re: What defines a "good" Rogue?
when a paladin is the maintank and a good rogue sees
"you cannot see the mob"
A good rogue makes a strong move backward on the first one cause he knows the mob is behind him even if it hasnt moved yet on the screen due to SoE magic coding for push stuns. The good rogue is doing damage to thin air about .5 seconds before the rest of the melee even know where the mob went or even realize theres a reason they are getting cannot hit the mob from here messages.

Ez to detirmine with a simple numbering system.
Add up all the Time rogues on your server.
Then count how many YOU taught how to make an evade key.
That is your score.

Re: What defines a "good" Rogue?
I never taught anyone to make an evade key. Don't believe in 'em. Call me "olde school".

There are a good many Time level rogues that I taught a lot of other things to, handed down old daggers and armor to too. However you can prpbably double that in enchanters in Time level guilds that I picked the Prince door to.

Am I saying I'm the best, hell no. I'm not uber, just old.

a "good rogue" knows how to find the sweet spot and
maximize damage and when to turn off attack when
the gann evade fails because dead rogues do no DPS!

Re: What defines a "good" Rogue?
I've been invited to LDoN groups where another rogue was present...exciting because you know it can be a very fast group...but disappointing if you find out that the rogue you are with is playing lazy and doesn't engage when they should, doesn't position very well, breaks mezzes...I had to ask, "Is anyone here 2-boxing?" but no...this rogue was just lazy looking for someone to push her through ldon's for points....don't be that rogue. Represent us well. Time on target.

Which reminds me...invis between fights and wait until crowd control is established before engaging. "Control! You must learn control." (Yoda)

bind one of those lame resistance augs to your lockpicks to make them nodrop...yeah, what rogue drops their lockpicks, right? Just to be safe and smart. I don't know how many times I offered up my lockpicks to a skelly that happened to be passing through my door while I was clicking away.

when CRing, everyone likes to know that you have found their body and are CRing them...so make hotkeys like:
/tt gotcha. I have your body and am CRing you, please be patient.
/tt done. Standby for rez.

and maybe something humorous to keep them in good spirits, because no one likes visiting the soulbinder after all...
/tt thank you for choosing Jecour's dragging service!

Necrotic divining device may save the day, get one.

change the color of NPC Enrage to make it more visible...make it a bright or unobvious color, and put it in one of your slower chat windows.

Be able to port yourself...Worker Sledgemallet, Thurg gate potions easy.

Know the non-CoH zones

Know attack buffs and stacking issues

Knowing the Pacify spells (duration, what level char can pac what level mob, when pac'er should use AE pac or just pac, etc.) might be a good thing

Being able to slow or snare in a pinch might save the day.

Keeping a pumice stone on you to null mob DS'es in a melee-heavy group might be a good thing.

might update this later with links etc.
