Re: EQ2 Video Footage from the Fan Faire
Remember also that it's been stated several times that the game is not being designed for the systems of today. Sony's stated time and time again that at release they expect that there will be no home PC's capable of running the game at full option. The game's been designed to last years and essentially grow into itself.

You are missing some video codecs. I found that installing the newest Roxio CD burning software (trial version) had all the codecs I've ever needed.

Man I'm really excited about this game but I was wondering if there will be a computer able to run it at full when it comes out. It was painfull watching it skip and stuter on the huge video download.

Re: EQ2 Video Footage from the Fan Faire
Dont worry the video was skipping because of the power issues they had, after that was resolved the game ran without any lag at all.

Sweet
Sweet, the k2.org/ffvegas040304/ mirror has had some more files added to it!

They show many group activities, killing mobs and such, and the emote movements!

Nice! I think i like these even more then the other ones already on there!

Re: Sweet
Yea!

So everybody go pull the videos down from the mirror site!!

:)

I had very little editing tools to work with at the Fan Faire, as I forgot to bring mine with me. So I had to use the only one available...

And honestly, I am too lazy to go back and slice them up nicely, because I don't really care that much to go back and do it...

Re: Sweet
I got to play it and it was honestly fun. The guy said minimum system specs would be 700mhz and a geforce 3. He said they intended to have a huge range of adaptility to the computer running it. (And by looking at the options it looked like he wasn't blowing smoke up my ass). He also said that they had tested it with large numbers of characters on screen (IE, raids), and that this engine is designed to scale MUCH better than the EQ1 so that a large raid won't lag yo down.

The graphics were good. I honestly thought all the prior screen shots looked like crap, but playing the world and characters look great and are not hard to swallow at all. The display engine needed some heavy collision and z-axis work, but thats to be expected.

The questing system, (which I saw only in a couple of newbie quests), was pretty nice. Lines (like in EQ bazaar) to guide you places, not just hack and slash and other stuff. (One quest the cleric had to run around curing diseased deer. On the other hand the rogue had to run around killing clean ones. The game kept track for you w/o you having to collect items off of them. Another quest I had was to sneak around a camp. I snuck around in circles for a bit and then it showed as complete so I headed back.) I didn't make it to or through any group quests though. The internet connection went down when I grouped w/ the cleric beside me so I desided to go use the bathroom.

The interface wasn't bad. It was a little more usable than the EQ one, but not mind blowing. More like an advancement of the current EQ interface, (though completely different code).

All in all I was never thinking about playing it before I tried it out. Now I've gotta say I really felt like that first day I was in kelethin and I"ll definately buy it to at least try it out.

Re: Sweet
wow, those videos are amazing...honestly, the game ran pretty decent, and if the stutters were from power, then i must say that i am impressed.

The problem I face is getting over EverQuest....since EverQuest, no MMORPG has been able to hold my attention....it is like i keep buying these games, looking for EverQuest...so while I am very excited about EQ2, I fear that I will only want to play EQ1. EQ1 blew me away...it had such a profound impact on my life...and i keep wanting that from games that I play. Maybe EQ2 will satisfy.

I am also worried that the game will have a much smaller fan base than EQ1... it just seemed like the time was right for EQ1, and every other MMORPG I have played since just hasnt seemed to have a large fanbase that will stay with it EG Asherons Call 2 :P

But I think, deep down, that these videos, thoughts, and in teh future, reviews followed by media hype will turn out a large fan base....

God i loved EQ......

..
I remember just hanging out in Kelethin and Crushbone for entire days...just hanging out and looking at merchants merchandise, wondering if I could ever buy the steel armor, not knowing that it was reall crappy.

I think it was because I was young... like 13 or 14... it was when hundreds of people would hang around kelethin and felwithe, because that was the place to level at low levels... im worried that i wont feel that again

The machine they where actually using for these videos was a 512Mb machine. They hadn't realised they where demoing on one of the lower spec machines.

When the broke for the short break, they swapped them about, but I believe the safehouse had been evicted by that point ;)
