Hellboy
I've never read the comic book, but I expected pure crap(I saw it for free). I don't know how faithful it was to the comic, but the movie actually turned out to be pretty good. There were a few loose ends/ unanswered questions at the end, however.
I give it 3/5 ragebringers.
P.S.
The nazi version of the assassin was completely awesome, I wish I had the action figure.
Re: Hellboy
It was... ok. Nothing special.
I enjoyed it, but I don't plan on buying it when it comes out most likely.
----spoilers...kinda----
Special effects were good, last fight was anti-climactic. Plot holes, no character progression and a few other things really bugged me.
Abe looked awesome, The blue fire was really cool looking.
There are only so many fights with squid-dogs I can watch. After the second or third fight I was getting bored with them.
I guess I'd give it two and a half outta 5.
Re: Hellboy
No, its a really good movie. All of the actors put in good performances, and Kroenen (tick...tick...tock) was a very bad person to mess with.

Re: Hellboy
It was ok. Not going to give any spoilers here, but I don't there were 10 concurrent minutes of the movie where I didn't think something was stupid.

From Tycho over at Penny Arcade (posted on Friday):
Quote:Let me see if I cannot tantalize you with a synopsis of the movie. It concerns the collusion of Nazi Clockwork Assassins and Russian Wizards in an effort to puncture space and draw in sleeping, ancient Gods while the paranormal wing of the FBI, assisted by a demon child, does their best to thwart this procedure. It's essentially pornography for nerds and it opens today.

Re: Hellboy
Is it possible to have worse script than LXG? Can't wait to see it, the trailers for it look pretty good so me and some friends have been waiting for it for a while. I'm really just expecting a comic book-y fun movie with nice special effects and no mindblowingly stupid deviations from the book. *cough*TomSawyer*cough*
Don't get your hopes up too high. It's really, really not that good.
Better than LXG, but watching me playing DDR for 90min would be more fun than that steaming pile.

Re: Hellboy
I think you guys are kind of harsh. I liked it as much as X2.
Great comic book movie. Perlman was great. Almost didn't go see it because of how badly it was panned here and I'm damn glad I did end up going.
Re: Hellboy
Come on now, honestly. It was not nearly as good as X2.
Nobody's really panned it per se. I think the general consensus of the naysayers is that it's worth seeing in theatres, but not by much. Good, but not great.
Re: Hellboy
Just saw Hellboy last night. Fantastic comic-book flick; I definately rank it among the 10 best comic book adaptations, and it's probably in the top five (haven't thought everything through yet; things gotta digest while I re-order my list ).
Re: Hellboy
There are like eleven comic book movies total, saying "top ten" really doesn't mean much

Re: Hellboy
Actually, if you really want to get down to it, there are a LOT more than 11 comic book adaptations. Let's see (and this is off the top of my head):
Hulk
Xmen
Spiderman
Punisher
Hellboy
Superman
Batman
Road to Perdition
Ghost World
TMNT
Dick Tracy
Blade
MIB
The Crow
Daredevil
LXG
From Hell
Popeye
Flash Gordon
Spawn
Those are just offhand. I'm sure there are a few more, maybe lots more although admittedly most of those suck voraciously.
Anyways, Hellboy was decent imo, and it seems like you guys are expecting every other movie that comes out to be "The Matrix"-like in innovation rather then being able to accept a decent story & great acting as what passes for entertainment. I have a brother than thinks every damn movie that comes out sucks, too.
What really boggles me is that many of you have no problem writing blowjob reviews for anything Ashton Kutcher shows up in.
I'm probably just too old. We'll chalk it up to that and leave it be.
Re: Hellboy
/sigh, exaggeration just doesn't transfer to the written world no matter how hard I try. Even if you stretch it there are, what, thirty movies even loosely related to comic books made in the past twenty years? That's hardly a library worthy of extensive ranking given the fact that the majority of comic book movies are barely even watchable.
I'd liken Hellboy to Hulk. Some like it a lot, some consider it par for the course, nobody really dislikes it.

Re: Hellboy
Oh really? That certainly comes as news to me. I rank LXG below Hulk, but only barely. And lets put it this way, I'd rather watch the Postman and Waterworld back to back than rewatch either LXG or Hulk.
Re: Hellboy
By the way, in case you're wondering what isn'trespect for the source material... (From an interview with Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro)
Quote:Hollywood, which tried -- and failed -- to alternately turn it into a crimson version of "The Hulk" or a demonic version of "Lassie" while attempting to cram The Rock down director Guillermo del Toro's throat.
"An executive said to me, 'What about a regular actor who gets angry and turns into Hellboy?' " said del Toro, wrinkling his face in disgust. "I go, 'That's ... not ... very good.
"Then they would say, 'What if you call him Hellboy and he comes from Hell and all that, but he looks like a guy?' Then they would suggest things like, 'Can he have a Hellmobile?' 'Can he have a dog? A pet dog that comes from hell and is red?'
"It went through every permutation. I had studios where I would start a meeting, and they would say, 'You're not making him red are you?' And I go, 'Yeah, he's red.' 'You're not doing the tail are you?' 'Yes, I'm doing the tail.' 'You're not doing the horns? 'Yes, I'm doing the horns.' "
