Re: fried bologna
One of the things I miss the most about the Midwest is a goold old worl deli. Polish, Italian, German, didn't matter. Same with bakeries. I go to carnicerias and panderias but not the same products.

Re: fried bologna
My cousin who lived in North Carolina used to work at a barbeque place where they sold fried bologna sandwiches. I didn't know anybody actually ate them.

Re: fried bologna
You don't really eat them, you just borrow them for a bit...

Re: fried bologna
Yep, Theres a few here that serve them, typically for breakfast.

Also several non-barbecue places too.

But If you can get North Carolina Barbecue, why on earth would you want to get Fried Bologna? Hell, I can fix that in my kitchen at home. Its good, yeah, but WTF???

Oh, and Fried Neese's Liver Pudding >>> Fried Bologna, any day of the week.

Not Liver Mush, Not Scrapple, Not some other brand of Liver Pudding. Has to be specifically Neese's Liver Pudding.

Man, I gotta get some of that to cook up for breakfast.

Re: fried bologna
Fried Balogna fried with barbeque sauce is the best. But for all you "North of the Mason Dixon Line" folks, try some of this.

Scrambled eggs with cow brains. MMMM love the stuff!

Re: fried bologna
It kind of makes me sad because we don't have anything regional in the northeast as far as food goes. I'm not really sure why. Maybe fresh maple syrup? I don't think that counts.

You guys have fried bologna, grits, cow brains...er, wait maybe I'm not so envious. :o

Oh, I'll pass on the brains.

Although my Dad has been known to enjoy Chitlins and Pickled Pigs feet.

Re: fried bologna
Actually when we heard about north east we do think of pancake and maple syrup, so fear not Krimzan, you have a regional dish. And fresh Atlantic fish and lobster. And that Morton salt guy. :)

I've always thought of the sub sandwich as being Northeasternerish...

Re: fried bologna
Subs are about as regional as fried chicken or pizza.

Re: fried bologna
Good subs are VERY regional, though. I have yet to find a local sub place in the South (5.5 years and counting /sigh) that knows how to make something as simple as a chicken, colby cheese, and mayo sub.

So sad, so sad.

"Scrambled eggs with cow brains."

Mmmmmm, prions.

My grandfather made me try brain and egg when I was a kid. I cried my eyes out and just about barfed at the first forkful.

Re: fried bologna
Isn't anyone else here just a straight eggs and biscuits person? Good, God...there really are some parts of animals you just shouldn't eat. Chitlins, for example. What a fine last joke a pig has on people..."Kill me, will ya? You can eat my ass!"

Eggs and Biscuits work for me. Of course, Eggs, Biscuits and Gravy work much, much better.

Re: fried bologna
mmm Nc BBQ

Fried livermush is awesome too

In my FFA class in High School we had a big feast once where we went out killed a pig and chickens. Then prepared em all ourselves. Man that was good eating, and a good learning experince.

And we have a soft drink thats only sold in the Carolinas (AFAIK) called Sundrop. Best drink ever.
