Re:
Aahh. For the most part, I agree with you. Not a spelling nazi myself, but Naoh tends to go apeshit when you spell his name "noah". Be best to edit it before he threatens your daughter on the phone or something :)

Re: Naoh and his anti-Semitism
To those who would defend the swastika:

I understand the history of the swastika. Yes it has been around for quite some time. Yes, it has different meanings. But to deny it's chief definition in today's world is simply stupid. When i say 9/11, do you think of dialing 911, or do you, as most people do, think of the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon? The other example I gave before: Do you think of the Egyptian ankh when someone shows you a cross? Or do you, like most of us, think of christianity. Some things, because they change the course of the world, imprint upon whatever symbols they use, and the two become synonymous.

As to the question of jewsish ancestry in Hitler and his officers. From the Daily Telegraph:

"Among the thousands of soliders of Jewish parentage who we reported briefly
last week as serving in Hitler's army during the Second World War were two
generals, eight lieutenant generals, five major generals, and 23 colonels.

They fought for the Nazi leaders who ordered the extermination of the Jews.

The German army personnel office prepared a list in January 1944 of 77 "high
ranking officers of mixed Jewish race or married to a Jew" serving in the
Wehrmarcht, the German armed forces.

All 77 had received a declaration from Hitler that they were "of German blood."

As for Hitler's ancestry. Seems I was mistaken in think their was definitive proof, but alas, it seems there is proof neither one way of the other. A quote:

"Others have cited Hitler's supposed belief that he had a Jewish ancestry. It is certain that Hitler strongly wished to repudiate his past. "People must not be allowed to find out who I am" (Hitler quoted in Fest 974: 14). Whatever the specific causation, clearly Hitler's image of Jews is linked to his deep fear of pollution that reflects his excruciating anxiety over inner splitting and disintegration. Exterminating the Jews was undoubtably Hitler's way of exteriorizing and objectifying psychic conflicts that would otherwise have led to utter collapse." From a Boston University historian

Please keep calling me ignorant.

Re:
noah has the wright to belive what he wants, to feel how he wants, and to hate who he wants, its no more wrong than hateing him because of his beliefs. it is not wrong to hate jews, or hate blacks, or whites, or everyone.

I dont personaly hate anyone, even people that hate me. the human personality is based around getting love from others, i think that its just easyer to be truthfull to myself and be nice to others. altho that dosnt mean i roll over and take it up the ass to avoid conflict.

The Old Shanky~

PS, noah, the swastika shi t has been played out already......

I didn't do it with intentions of starting a controversy. I know it's already been done. I just thought it looked cool. Hell, I got it from Darrian's ezboard profile.

Re: Naoh and his anti-Semitism
Fundy you said this,

"I understand the history of the swastika. Yes it has been around for quite some time. Yes, it has different meanings. But to deny it's chief definition in today's world is simply stupid. When i say 9/11, do you think of dialing 911, or do you, as most people do, think of the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon?"

I ask you why someone must dwell on the negative. However I agree with you that in today's world if you ask someone about the swastika they will most likely mention Germany. But I put forth to you this...

No matter how much you or anyone else hates Germany and the swastika time will pass and the events of todays world will no longer be in people's mind it will only be in history books. The swastika will again live as a sign and symbol for the many different things that it stands for to the many different peoples of this world. As time progresses so will the captions of todays events become smaller and smaller. All of the energy you and others like you spend here trying to bury a world symbol over something one man did will be for nothing.

Ok so enough of philosophy. You get my point I hope and if you dont, then your dense. Oh and BTW if you mention 9/11 I dont immediately think of the WTC. I think of Porsche. Damn, I want one of them cars.

Re: Naoh and his anti-Semitism
Perhaps I have not made myself clear. I am not Jewish, have no Jewish ancestors for as far back as my family has been traced, and actually have some German parentage. I do not hate Germany, as some do, nor do I hate the symbol of the swastika. I think it is tragic that some symbols come to represent perverse and hideous acts, but the sad fact is they do. While it would be ignorant to ignore the history of the symbol, it would be the same to deny it's current context. While the Porsche was a creative 911 use that I overlooked, the fact remains that 9/11 is now forever linked with the attacks as is the swastika with Nazism.

And since when did the number of posts determine the worth of the poster? Yes, I am new to the flameboards. I don't know any darrian, and I haven't had the chance to read old posts from naoh or anyone else for that matter. But because he hasn't shown any anti-semitism before, means its okay for him to talk about killing jews (must be in jest i guess). But who's more guilty. Those who commit the acts or those who sit by and watch as they happen?

Yup, real concerned about how i rank on these boards. Real concerned with how you think of me. The only reason I'm posting is to correct the historical errors I see. Something about getting a degree in history, just makes me do it.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Blacks, homosexuals, or Jews. I'm neither, however. I'm of Swedish and English ancestry. Your resulting to name calling just proves that you don't have an argument that can stand up to an intellectual challenge.

Re: Naoh and his anti-Semitism
No one is forgetting the events of the world wars. In this I think we just have to disagree for I feel it is asinine to say someone cannot display the swastika because of one event in history.

A low number of posts doesnt relate to self worth. Though it does relate to others view of you. Kinda like 1st impressions. Being a dumb ass and having the Ispewshitfromthemouth disease doesnt leave a good one whether your in person or on the boards.

When did I call you a name?

I have an argument. It's just pointless to argue about something when neither sides are open to change their opinions.

Re: Naoh and his anti-Semitism
Fing,

Clearly I don't understand the dynamic of the flameboards. You criticize Fundysk1 for posting intelligible, thought out posts that cite evidence for what he is saying, yet you immolate and shelter Naoh for what he does. I encourage you to flame me for being intolerant to anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia. A man's worth is measure in not what he believes, but in how he acts. I know Fundysk1 irl. Bash his intellect. The fact is, he has a B.A. in History, B.S. in Biochemistry, and a M.D. He is clearly more credible on these boards than a racist bastard (Naoh) that has posted here more frequently.

I applaud those of you who are also intolerant to prejudism and implore those of you who support (in any way) racism to examine more closely what you post before you post it. The thread about the history of the Swastika is getting very redundant. I think it is clear now that EVERYONE understands what its original connotations were. What is being missed, however, is that this is not a debate on its origins. It is a discussion of its current connotations and its use as a racist symbol. To those of you who say that anti-Semitism is a thing of the past... read the news. Thousands of Middle-eastern Jews flock to the U.S. yearly for religious asylum because of racism and intolerance. You ask why I care? Did 6 million+ of your ancestors get slaughtered on the premise of only their religion/heritage? Of course I care. To say that I shouldn't is truly close-minded. To make jokes, jest, or to dismiss such comments saddens me. To say that these things "shouldn't bother me" saddens me. Should I not mourn and defend my People? Of course I should.

This one time God flooded the earth and killed 'em all but a l33t few. God can kill all those people for not agreeing with him on religion but Hitler can't? Ffft to that.
