Hi all
I have a 94 3.0L auto (1KZ-TE engine) and I've been having problems starting the engine. It turns over, but won't start first time every time. It is worse first time in the day, but I still have problems later on too. I have some black smoke coming out of the exhaust when I accelerate, but I think this is unrelated as I've always noticed it there.
It might be a fuel problem, but unsure. Spoken to a few mechanics who (over the phone) tell me its probably the glow plugs, but one told me it it's more likely leaky valves in the fuel filter head with the idea that the fuel is flowing in reverse and therefore must be vaccume sucked into the engine when I want to start it.
I live in Townsville so if anyone knows of a good Surf Mechanic here please let me know. Many thanks.
