My 93 3.0 Surf is making a grinding noise when I start it sometimes which lasts approx 2- 5 seconds. I thought it was the starter motor as it is the same kind of noise the starter makes when it is on the way out. I took it to a Auto electrician who says its not the starter. He showed a mechanic who says it could be the flywheel or clutchplate as when under load it was doing it also(parkbrake on and riding clutch). They say the Gearbox will have to come out so they can try and find it. Also if I turn the wheel hard to the left it has made the noise a couple of times which lasted about 5 seconds and then was gone. Other than that the car is fine and I am hoping somebody else can shed some light before I start forking out big dollars. The car has only done 94,000 kms. Cheers Paul
