problems with EQW?
I have several computers on a LAN, lately been getting what i can only describe as ghost lag. That is, when playing randomly when i turn or meet other players/objects my packet loss will jump to 99% and if i do nothing 30-60 seconds later i go LD and get kicked out of the game. I call this ghost lag because it only happens when i am playing EQ using EQW running 2 accounts from the same computer. And when i type /who all playername, the lag temporarily goes away.
I've tried changing routers, upgrading firmware, opening all ports, and using a daisy-chain /w software based hub. Tried this on a p4 1.8 gig /w 1 gig ram and a geforce fx 5700 /w 256 megs ram, tried it on a p4 3 gig /w same as above. EQW just likes to crap out on me when running multiple instances. As a rogue, this works to kill my "solo" option since i can't 2 box cleric or shaman from same machine anymore.
Running with normal EQ.exe is fine, course, can't 2 box with that so that doesn't help.
Anyone else getting this "ghost lag" with EQW when 2 boxing from same machine?

No. You can run EQ just fine with it in the same directory, I do it all the time, you don't need 2 directories. Ever since they patched it to let EQ run in a window normally this has been possible.

Windowed EQ was > EQW for a week or two till the new DX9 friendly EQW came out. Its still pretty close on my machine, but i like being able to alt-F4 EQ, and cant do that w/ Windowed EQ, have to end the process to quickly exit.

I have run two accounts for some time now and have never used EQW. I didn't even bother with two directories until recently. I simply load one instance and when it was finished I started it again, even using the same executable. (some suggest making a copy and renaming it)
I have even run three accounts at once, although not too often. It's a little tedious trying to toggle between three screens.
I did recently switch to using two seperate EQ directories and a second executable called EverquestB.exe. It was suggested as a way to improve performance.

One thing I think some folks are missing is you have to download the "windows application compatibility toolkit" to make it possible to alt tab when using Windows XP.

Don't forget the hotkeys in EQW for switching to the screen of your choice.
