speed chime, Reverse Beep - successfully disabled it?
To disable the speed chime

In older surfs before 1990 The speed buzzer is right hand side off the radio (by my knee on a righthand drive). and can be disconnected by pulling a simple plug apart

1991 on it is attached to the back of the speedo you have to pull the face of the dash apart then remove the instrument cluster which will only come out about 50mm you can just see the little metal box at the back of speedo cut the wire coming out of the cluster do not remove any of the wiring if possible as it is hard to reconect cutting the wire did no harm and the bell is gone.

Re: Reverse Beep - anyone successfully disabled it?
My car has the reverse beep + light beep + key in ignition and door open beep + constant beep after 20 or so seconds leaving in ON position.

So far the only solution I have heard is to just disable the speaker, but then that will remove all warnings.

I have a wiring diagram for the 3.0 surf but I assume its the same for the 2.4, so if i can, i will try and work out which wires cause what beeps.

Re: Reverse Beep - anyone successfully disabled it?
I bought my car with the beep disabled, so its definitely possible. All my warning lights still are alert, including headlight left on warning. I have a 94 limited.

Re: Reverse Beep - anyone successfully disabled it?
to disable the reverse beep, I removed the 'beeper' - it's located on the rear of the instument assembly (speedo/tacho assy) and is very obvious. It's held on by 2 screws, unscrew it - problem 1 solved.
Door chime is almost as easy - on the left side of the ignition barrel assembly there is a small sensor/switch that has two wires coming from it (i think they are green - I forget now) they are seperately cable tied to the main ignition loom - give one the snip and the door chime will be disabled.
The headlight reminder will still function after doing these mods. (headlight reminder is a constant tone when ignition is off, lights are on and door is opened.)
This all relates to my 3 lt 93 SSR-G, others may be different but I suspect they'd all be very similiar.
I have pics somewhere if you want to see the reverse buzzer on the instument PCB and the ignition assy switch.

Further to my previous post, here are some pics from my 93 SSR-G 3 litre of the ignition key sensor and the reverse piezo 'beeper'

ok so the links didn't work... bloody Freeservers.. %$#@*
try these:
toyotasurf.s5.com/cgi-bin..._1713a.jpg
toyotasurf.s5.com/cgi-bin/i/Dcp_1689.jpg
If for some reason they still don't work, go to: toyotasurf.s5.com/ and manually add: Dcp_1713a or Dcp_1689 to the end of the link as I havn't indexed/thumbnailed these two pics.

What Headlight reminder?
My Surf is a SSR-X Limited - 3TD built 95/2.

Should I have a headlight reminder? I don't have a door-open reminder either.

Perhaps it has been disabled and could be reenabled (the headlights that is - dont want a door reminder 8-))

Re: What Headlight reminder?
Count me as odd but I don't mind the reverse beeper. There are times where I have had the car in reverse and then just about to put the foot down to go forward but forgotten to put it in D...ok so I am sometimes stupid!!! I have realised in time that the beeper has been harrassing me. Phew. That is one less insurance claim.

The door and key in ignition beeper is bloody annoying. Headlight one is great.

Probably, because I am not blonde but do have my pseudo blonde day....maybe it is because I have just become a granny so am entering my dottage?? Whatever the reason..I am female so am allowed to be stupid around cars and not get laughed at.

Re: Reverse Beep - anyone successfully disabled it?
The beep, beep, beep when you put my Surf 95 3.0TD into reverse annoys the bejesus out of me. As if I didn't know I put it into reverse!

It would be far more useful as a headlight reminder.

Sounds like an ideal project for you smart auto-electician types out there.

I'd love to see some instructions, even it its for disabling the beep altogether.
